More Opportunities in your Job Search

May 25, 2011 by Martin Buckland Leave a Comment

A job search is the active pursuit of uncovering opportunities. Certainly your job search strategy will determine how and where you go to uncover those opportunities but we do know that networking is the most successful job search tool available. It only stands to reason that with more opportunities you will increase your chances of success.

InspireMeToday.com presents 500 words of brilliance from Adryenn Ahsley who writes, “But wherever I look I see opportunities that go untaken by people who are frozen in fear. The antidote to the fear is acceptance, knowledge, and focus.” This quote reminded of the number of people who are still hesitant to embrace social media as a means of increasing their opportunities to succeed in their job search or any other endeavour.

Fear is certainly a factor in holding many people back from seizing new opportunities so it may help to know that the top 3 social media sites were launched between 5 and 8 years ago!

Linkedin was launched in 2003 (currently over 100 million users)

Facebook was launched in 2004(currently over 600 million users)

Twitter was launched in 2006 ( currently over 200 million users)

A 2006 quote from Rupert Murdoch, Global Media Entrepreneur; “Technology is shifting the power away from the editors, the publishers, the establishment, the media elite. Now it’s the people who are in control.”

Quote from Seth Godin, “The word blog is irrelevant, what’s important is that it is now common, and will soon be expected, that every intelligent person (and quite a few unintelligent ones) will have a media platform where they share what they care about with the world.”
